Acolyte was a term used to refer to the magical apprentices of the Sorcerer-King who served as his top lieutenants and generals during the War of the Sorcerer-King. They were each powerful sorcerers in their own right, and despite their subservience to the Sorcerer-King, they often schemed and plotted against each other to earn the king's favour.

List of Acolytes[]

  • Venac the Arrogant: the Sorcerer-King's favoured apprentice but also principal rival. Ruled as Highlord of the Vertesk Dominion and was a capable war wizard and governor. Famous for killing Munas Moonsinger. Met his end during the Storming of Vertesk when he refused to flee his base of operations, the Black Tower of Vertesk.
  • Mafalda the Mad: a near-insane Cardesti seeress and said to be the architect and master strategist of the invasions. Obediently loyal to the Sorcerer-King, she met her end during the Liberation of the Small Country. It is said that all was going as part of her plan, but one thing skewed her visions: the arrival of elvenkind. It is rumoured that Mafalda and her forces could have been saved, but Venac the Arrogant plotted against her that ultimately led to her demise at the hands of Taranath Seerslayer.
  • Iacob the Betrayer: Former Highlord of the Businor Dominion, Iacob was disgraced when he was defeated in a duel by Garion the Wise and was recalled by the Sorcerer-King to be punished, with his lands being given to Ettalinde to rule and absorbed by her Dostanor Dominion. A known administrator and influential among the nobility and patricians of the Empire, he was later charged in keeping order back in Escann, but ultimately turned coat and provided intelligence for the Free Realms. During the Liberation of Castanor he served as Caylen Longlance's counterpart and led Free Castanor sympathizers from within.
  • Canrec the Defiler: a powerful mage responsible for raising legions of the dead during the Liberation of Castanor. He was thought to be slain, but he had successfully achieved lichdom and later caused the White Pestilence.
  • Ettalinde the Wretched: Highlady of the Dostanor Dominion and known for her enchanting beauty and known for commanding legions of mind-controlled soldiers, willingly or otherwise. She was obsessed with beauty and as the war continued she became increasingly concerned with herself than the war. She famously withdrew all her Corvurian forces from the war and was killed by Canrec the Defiler. Her dominion was shortly liberated by Jaher. Theories suggest she survived the war and become the first vampire.
  • Ciprian the Depraved: master of transmutation magics, shapeshifter and feared for his perverse and sadistic ways. Along with Canrec, Ciprian was one of the last two acolytes in the war and fought in the Liberation of Castanor. During one of the final battles of the war, the Battle of Nathwoud, Ciprian tried to kill and betray the weakened Sorcerer-King, only to fail and have his magic turned against him, being turned into the Philosopher's Stone.
