The Demon Bull, also called the Upeo Uywa by local Amadians, was a creature that existed in Amadia for hundreds of centuries, terrorizing peoples across Amadia in its constant rampage across the continent.
History[]
Its origins are unknown, but Amadian rumors proclaim that the bull was created in the eras of Divination, when magic storms swept the land and caused chaos during civil wars. A Quruwei man was venturing northwards on a trade mission. He had been known for his frequent use of magics, which showed as his skin had two horn-like protrusions. On his journey, he happened to be spotted by the god Pancha, the creator of land animals. He was furious with his brother, Poqi, and his walking-talking creations. Noticing the man’s horns, which he considered an abomination of his creations, he snapped, and placed a curse upon the man. The man transformed into a fiendish bull with deep red and fleshy skin, guarded by thick bony plates as hard as stone, and two hand-like protrusions extending from its side. The bull's face was covered in a similar stone-like material, taking the appearance of a statue. Angry with its new appearance, and unable to speak, the bull began to rampage across Amadia, becoming Pancha’s vengeance against elvenkind.
It has been said that this mythological origin was made as anti Quruwei sentiment, due to their frequent use of magics in contrast to the rest of Amadia. The horns the man had before his transformation are a frequent sign amongst Quruwei mages, who would gain animal-like traits due to their frequency of using magics.
Putting aside its mythological rumors, its existence has been proven real thanks to a variety of track prints and calamities that have lined up with where the Demon Bull was said to be, up until its death. Its tracks, larger than those of regular Cannorian bulls, take sporadic turns across the continent, starting close to small Quruwei settlements in the south, before moving north into Quchamar lands, and then taking a hard right and rampaging into Faalte farms, moving north once again into Chaqanel lands, and even entering Chamullach territory, before eventually being taken on its killing journey.
Its death is also shrouded in mystery, aside from the fact that one man killed it, known as Qilto. Qilto was said to be a Quruwei soldier, wise in the way of cow wrangling from his days as a farmer, and skilled with the blade. He slayed the beast by toppling it over and slitting its throat. Amadian rumors claim that this feat was done by trekking all the way to the Chamullach territory where the bull was present, and meeting the bull head-on. Qilto then proceeded to hop on top of the Demon Bull’s back, and ride it for two days and two nights back to his home farm, before slaying the beast by forcing it to trip and fall, allowing him to slit his open neck.
The bull’s stone exterior can be seen in the hands of many powerful Quruwei sages and warriors, with the solid head remaining within the hands of the descendants of Qilto for many decades. Some pieces ended up within the hands of Cannorian scientists, who found the exterior to be "Of the same texture of porcelain, but much more durable, and laced with glints of rainbow particles."
When Cannorian colonizers came and brought actual male bovines with them, there was a period in time where there was conflict, with natives believing bulls to be similar to the Beast of Nature, and slaughtered them. The name for cows in Amadia comes from the Demon Bull as well, being Uywani.
