Goldscale Kobolds are a subspecies of Kobold from Haless, easily distinguishable by their namesake golden scales. They are thought to have emerged from subterranean caves in the mountains and hills of northern Yanshen and Rahen. The Yan people have long considered the Goldscale kobolds and their scales to be good luck charms, and have welcomed them into their cities and villages as craftsmen and traders. This resulted in the Goldscales eventually being seen as an integral part of civilized Halessi society, as opposed to the persecution experienced by their Cannorian cousins.
History[]
While Goldscale sightings have been recorded in Yanshen for thousands of years, their own traditions state that they rarely found their way to the surface until the Day of Ashen Skies, after which, fleeing goblinoid persecution, they exited the Jade Mines and spread across the hills of northern Yanshen and Rahen. They remained relatively isolated in their mountain tribes for the next few centuries until the Dragonwake, (~470 AA) when they congregated and united under the tutelage of the great dragon Balris the Gold, forming the nation of Balrijin.
