The Kingdom of Esmaria was a medieval kingdom consisting of the Esmaria region.
History[]
Founding[]
The Esmari Kingdom was founded during the Dragonwake in 473 after the fall of the Damerian Republic. The many river-kings were finally united as one in response to the Dragonwake itself, and the formation of the foreign Wexonard Kingdom to its south.
Conquest during War of the Sorcerer-King[]
During the War of the Sorcerer-King the Esmari Kingdom was attacked in 988 in what was known as the Invasion of the Eastern Dameshead. While their armies were preoccupied fending off simultaneous attacks in the north and south, at the Battle of Hatter's Green and Siege of Ainsway respectively, Ettalinde the Wretched mind-controlled the heavy defenses of dwarven tunnels of Oldpassage and led her combined army to their capital leading to the Slaughter of Esmarwic. The slaughter itself is reviled for its usage of enchantment magics, as Ettalinde used the mind-controlled forces for Oldpassage to gain entry into the fortified city, only to slaughter everyone, including the Esmari royal family.
The fall of Esmaria caused fractures amongst the already prone-to-squabbling river lords, and by the end of the war the kingdom remained divided. While the kingdom officially fell to Laren the Lecher, a cousin of the deceased royal family, few lords recognized his authority, who wanted to choose a king among themselves during the Treaty of Anbenncóst. This was also exarcerbated with the influx of new warlords in the region, such as the Black Castanorian Drosten River-Reaver, who refused the outcome of the treaty and return lands to the Esmari people.
