The Marrodics are an Alenic people who inhabit the land of Marrvale and the dwarven hold of Marrhold. They used to live in the Greatwoods, before they migrated east during the Dragonwake to Southern Escann. The Marrodics are the most distant Alenic group, lying at the edge of the continent.

History[]

The Marrodic people used to live in the Alenic Frontier, until the Dragonwake and the rise of the Gawedi Kingdom forced the Marrodics to flee with the other members of the Three Tribes into the lands of the Damerian Republic, repelling a Gawedi attack at the battle of Bal Hyl. Upon refusing the reward of land in what later became The Borders, the Marrodic people migrated through Kobarid land and into southern Escann. Once there, they settled Marrvale, eventually claiming the abandoned dwarven hold Ânumdihr, which they renamed Marrhold.

After King Marr founded the Kingdom of Marrhold, his son, Ulric ‘The Griffon Prince’, was able to domesticate the wild griffons that live around the area, becoming the first griffon rider, leading to the eventual creation of the Griffon knights.

Physical appearance[]

Like other alenic groups, the Marrodic are short, stocky, with hair on their arms, and are fair skinned with dark eyes and hair. Unlike their Gawedi cousins, however, Marrodic men and women keep their hair long and flowing, resembling griffons. Beards are common among men.

Society[]

Like many Alenics, the Marrodics are a stoic, rugged people. Mainly shepherds, farmers, and miners, they tend to stick to Marrvale and Marrhold above in the Serpentspine, though they sometimes did conquer lands outside it under the Kingdom of Marrhold. They see no use for being ostentatious, wearing mainly linen and woollen clothing, except for the wealthier nobles. Like most people in Cannor, they speak Common.

A major cultural trend with the Marrodics, perhaps their most stereotypical trait, is their fixation on griffons. Marrodic men and women tend to grow their hair long, making it resemble that of a griffon’s mane. The Griffon Knights, an institution under the Kingdom of Marrhold, consisted of nobles who had tamed and rode griffons into battle.
