A mount is a riding animal, used for labor and war alike - though usually different breeds perform different functions. While horses are the most famous mounts, other riding animals also exist.
Horses[]
Cannorian Breeds[]
Adenican Courser[]
Once the most popular warhorse in Escann, the Greentide devastated this breed's numbers and the few that remain are jealously guarded by their owners. The Adenican Courser was known for being fast and light, while maintaining enough strength to support an armored rider.
Alenic Rouncey[]
Favored for its strength and relative cheapness, the Alenic Rouncey is a popular choice for both a riding horse and pack horse. It is also used in war, especially by less wealthy nations, where it does well but not outstandingly.
Arbarani Destrier[]
Considered the strongest horse in Cannor, the Arbarani Destrier is favored by many knights and jousters who can afford one. It is also the favored warhorse of Arbaran's devastatingly effective heavy cavalry.
Cestirander Universal Horse[]
The Cestirander Universal Horse is a well known horse breed hailing from Cestirande which shares the traits of both warm and cold blooded horses, resulting in it being very versatile. It can be used for both war and labor, with the former task eventually fading, leading to the horse being bred with warm-blooded ones for increased efficiency in production.
Elikhandi Courser[]
A crossbreed of the Kheteratan and the Arbarani Destrier, the Elikhandi Courser is bred primarily in its namesake country as a replacement for the lost Adenican Courser. It is often regarded as somewhat faster than its predecessor, but with less stamina.
Lencori Charger[]
Found in the Southern Flats of Lencenor, with the best of breed said to be from Enteben, the Lencori Charger is the favored warhorse of the Kingdom of Lorent. It is known for being an excellent all-around breed, with a balance of strength, speed and stamina that makes it a solid choice for any battle.
Lencori Palfrey[]
Originally from the Shrouded Coast, the Lencori Palfrey is the favorite riding horse of much of the Cannorian nobility for its smooth, ambling gait that makes it easy to ride over long distances.
Ording Workhorse[]
A working horse with excellent stamina, the Ording Workhorse is common in the western plains of Lencori, particularly the Northern Flats of its namesake Duchy of Ording. It is renowned for its calm demeanor and steadfast nature.
Cursewood Draft Horse[]
Known for a stubborn attitude that requires great patience to overcome, which has been said to fit well with the temperament of the Ibevari elves who bred it to wander the dark, winding paths of the Forlorn Vale. The Cursewood Draft is noted for possessing distinct silver or bluish coats, a trait shared with the Ainéthíl Courser.
Ainéthíl Courser[]
Also known as the Cursewood Courser, this breed was similar to the Adenican courser, but being crossed with the Cursewood draft, maintained the more hardy breed's unflinching temperament and stubbornness. Originally created in the Kingdom of Farraneán, the breed was largely confined to Ibevar after the Greentide. While it often takes a few human lifetimes to learn to get along with them, those who have find a bold mount that won't flinch at the shot of a gun, and can easily outmaneuver other breeds in dense forests, steep valleys, and other rough terrain seen in its native land.
Roysfort Thoroughbred[]
A small, but quite fast, horse favored by the Redfoot halflings and common in both horseracing and among messenger services.
Newshire Horse[]
Popular Escanni workhorse first bred in Newshire, large horse with a black coat and long mane. Famously gentle with a smooth, slow gait.
Eaglecrester Horse[]
A big and sturdy breed of horse from the foothills and mountains of the dragon coast. Known for it’s surefootedness and steadfast nature, this horse can traverse the rough terrain of the region with ease. While used in war the Eaglecrester is most popular among Huntsmen and Shepherds.
Dalric Fjord Horse[]
A rather small breed of draught horse used in the Dalr valley, the most common farm horse. Known for its compact, sturdy body and light tan coat.
Bulwari and Sarhaly Breeds[]
Kheteratan[]
A fast and nimble breed for the North Salahad, the Kheteratan is found in both its namesake country as well as, to a lesser extent, the Akani kingdoms. It is widely regarded as the fastest horse in its region, popular in both Salahad and Cannor, but has difficulty with armored riders and so is only suitable for light cavalry.
Kumarkandi Draft Horse[]
Famed for both their incredible strength and incredible stubbornness, Kumarkandi draft horses are prized workhorses for farming, however infamously hard to work with. Most commonly used in bulwar.
Avamezan Purebred[]
When the sun elves landed in Bulwar, they brought their horses with them. Many of these noble beasts marched east with Jaher, but some remained in Bulwar. One breed of horse that descended from those creatures are the Avamezan Purebred, the steeds of the nobility of Sareyand. They are famed for their speed, strength and fearlessness on the battlefield.
Mašnsih Desert Horse[]
A horse breed from the eastern Salahad, it is known for being well adapted for faster movement over long distances and to the arid climate of the desert. These horses are good-natured and quick to learn. The nomadic Mašnsih and Desert Elves consider these horses part of their families.
Halessi Breeds[]
Sikai Purebred[]
Bred by the horsemen of Khao Elnak, the Sikai Purebred is the fastest and hardiest steed in Thidinkai. Originally used for only the most elite of the Elnaki cavalrymen, over time most Kai riders used them as their steeds.
Aelantiri Breeds[]
Ynnic Antler Horse[]
The Ynnic Antler Horse, called Rogavus in Dolindhan and Rohavy in Sarda, sometimes referred to as “Greatdeer” by West Tipneyans, is used by the Ynnics for their great cavalry charges, crushing enemy infantry when not outright impaling them, and in peacetime it is a great symbol of prestige and lordly power. With a size rivalling that of a draft horse and antlers bigger and sturdier than an adult stag’s, much of the Ynnic economy is devolved to sustaining these great beasts, and it is said that along with their royal-like majesty comes a pickiness and attitude rivalling that of the lords riding them.
Originally native to the northern forests of Dolindha, they were exported to Sarda lands during Ynnic Empire times, and were bred to be smaller and more manageable through the centuries, though huge feral antler horses can still be found deep within Drevkenuc. Their taming is attributed to the legendary figure of Lukaus from the turn of the first century After Ash. In many tales surrounding Lukaus, Ynnic Antler Horses are portrayed as being able to talk, and choose their riders based on the nobleness of their hearts while fiercely resisting any attempts to be ridden by the unworthy.
Epednar Crossbreed[]
A hybrid between the Dolindhan antler horse of the forests and the lightweight Epednar horse of the prairies, the Epednar Crossmount is a midweight horse with long, single-point antlers that fall off and regrow at a quick rate. While lacking the raw power of an Antler Horse, they have greater agility and endurance. Popular in Arganjuzorn, other Dolindhan lords consider such mounts outlandish.
Tipney Runner[]
Descended from the Roysfort Thoroughbred, the (West) Tipney Runner is potentially the fastest breed of horse to ever dash across the forests and fields of the Ynn, possibly fastest in the world. Most commonly used by the Pipefoot halflings, also popular in Tellumtir. Excellent for messanger services, races, scouts, and yeehaw.
Plumhair Mustang[]
Even more curious than the Ynnic antler horses or the Ainéthíl Courser, mystical power grants the mage-bred Plumhair Mustang great endurance, an unyielding spirit, and most distinctively a keenly purple coat, along with rumors of these steeds suddenly rampaging or imploding.
Noruinic Forest Horse[]
An adaptation of the Cestirander Universal Horse by Cestirmarker horse breeders to make these versatile animals more resilient to the natural hazards of Aelantir; those horses can easily navigate through the magically corrupted terrain of the continent.
Effelai Pack Horse[]
Light yet strong and fast, the Effelai Pack Horse is a mage-breed adapted to the deadly South Aelantir jungle, but too small to be used effectively as a warhorse. It is resistant to the heat and insects, with short manes and thick, porous skin.
Larankarha Hill Horse[]
These horses are strong, nimble, and fleet of foot, traits said to be a result of mountain goat blood running through their veins.
Mythical Horses[]
Enteben Unicorn[]
Pegasi[]
Camels[]
Camels are used as cavalry alongside horses in the regions neighboring the Salahad desert. In Kheterata, they are used as regular units, while in Far Bulwar they are commonly associated with the Mašnsih tribes and the rangers using them as mounts to secure the caravan routes crossing the desert.
Mechamel[]
Created by the Delta Gnomes as a mechanical replacement for the camel, they have maneuverable joints that allow for a wider range of motion such as being able to assume a stance lower to the ground for fast, low-visibility running and raising up to become elevated firing platforms.
Hogs[]
Hold Hog[]
Used by the Dwarves of Ovdal-az-Ân the Hold Hog is known for it's strength and stamina, much like their dwarven counterparts. They are used to assist in holdworks and digging, carrying rubble and tools about the hold.
Draconic[]
Wyvern[]
The mounts of the old wyvern riders of the Kingdom of Verne, they are relatives of the dragons, though not quite as large nor as intelligent. They are known for their high stamina, great hostility, and deadly stinger tails. It is said the Vernids only ever tamed the wyverns by enchanting them from the moment they hatched, for nothing else could calm the beasts. They were used for reconnaissance and raiding enemy lands, primarily, being too aggressive to use in formation.
Drakes[]
Located in the Middle Dwarovar. Tamed by the Skewered Drake black orc tribe.
Griffons[]
Swiftclaw Griffon[]
A smaller breed of Griffon, originally bred by Wicing of Dryadsdale, a marrodic nobleman and first commander of the Marrodic Survey Corps, these griffons are significantly smaller in that they can only carry a single person. However, they also require less maintenance and can maneuverer through the forests with ease.
Ironclaw Griffon[]
Descended from the sturdy griffons used by marrodic knights, these are larger and more muscular, able to be adorned with a full-body suit of armor. Although proving effective in combat, they are expensive and slower in the air. Their most notable feature is the loud scream they emit while diving into enemy lines, terrifying foes.
Royal Griffon[]
The largest breed of Griffon, bred by Sir Ralph Peckham, the Royal Griffon surpasses even Ironclaws in terms of girth, requiring exorbitant amounts of food to keep them well-fed. Their primary use, and reason for creation, was to impress royalty and are indeed used by the royal house. Seovol, past Marrhold King Gryf the Young's mount, was one such notable example of a Royal Griffon. Unfortunately this breed also has a history of chronic heart issues, leading to short life-spans.
Pygmy Griffon[]
Developed by Lord Randall Hakebourne in the late 1700s, these gryphons are only slightly larger than dogs. They often act as house pets and hunting hounds of marrodic aristocracy. These are highly priced in marrodic society.

Used by Guwamuud throughout their history, these terror-birds stand as tall as a man with long, powerful legs. Their hooked beaks are designed to tear flesh and crush bone. Though they have lost the ability of flight, with only vestigial wings, they still use these remnants for balance in high-speed chases.
