Nichmer, more commonly known as the Sorcerer King was a former advisor of Korbarid origin to the Empire of Castanor. Using dark magics he enthralled Castan the Enthralled and used him to wage war on the rest of Cannor, in what would later be known as the War of the Sorcerer-King. Despite this, the Sorcerer-King moniker would only be adopted late in the war 1015 when Castan's spell broke and was killed by Nichmer, who adopted the moniker.
Etymology[]
There have been various origins of Nichmer's name, and whether it was the Sorcerer King's birth name or rather a title given or claimed. The most common origins of his name lie in the Korbarid word 'Nichar' meaning 'Snake', and 'Mere' meaning 'Son', which Nichmer meaning 'Snake's Son'. Another origin is the Old Castanorian word for Night, 'Nich', and the corrupted of that word into Nightmare.
Powers and Abillities[]
Nichmer was a powerful mage, especially skilled in the arts of enchantment. His enchantment skills were so especially powerful he was able to "enchant" the magic of others, forcing it to his will once it has been cast. This gave him a particular advantage against other mages, some say this is a large reason many acolytes served him as those who betrayed him were defeated through this technique.
