Runefather Worship is the faith of the Obsidian Dwarves, in which the Runefather, the leader and god is worshipped. He saved the obsidian dwarves from death by the legions of Aul-Dwarov millennia ago and brought them to safety in to the Primeval Serpentdepths. Thus his worship is the primary religion among the Obsidian Dwarves.
History[]
Many millennia ago, the dwarves of Aul-Dwarov fought a long war against the Precursor elves, and during this war the Runesmiths of Gor Dûrgheled combined their rune magic with the blood of Precursor elves. The result was the creation of a new type of magic that proved to be powerful but also very unstable, turning battles to the favor of the dwarves at high costs. The High King, Magni IX, and many of the dwarven holds opposed the use of this new magic and asked the Obsidian Dwarves to stop its use, but the Obsidian Dwarves replied that its use and consequences were a necessary sacrifice to guarantee victory. The Holds in response cut all contact with Gor Dûrgheled.
As the war dragged on, the other holds could no longer ignore the blood magic of Gor Dûrgheled, and sent a large army to ensure the removal of blood magics from Dwarvenkind. The ruler of Gor Dûrgheled, the Nameless King, refused to allow the massacre of his people and gathered the holds population into a giant runic circle he and his fellow runesmiths created, and cast a spell that sent them into deepest parts of Halann, the Primeval Serpentdepths. The Nameless King's mind and body were broken, and where he stood was only a husk that the Obsidian Dwarves called the Runefather. His body was set atop the Obsidian Throne, kept alive through faith and magic, waiting for the day he can once again lead his people to the surface world.
