The Three Temples of the Suran are the 3 main holy sites of the Bulwari Sun Cult located in the cities of Bulwar, Eduz-Vacyn and Azka-Sur. Each has known various level of power throughout the centuries but in all three cities the clergy remained a powerful political force, led by the so-called 3 Kašra of the Suran. Their role declined following the Landing and the Age of Cinders but they were instrumental to the writing and the influence of the Proclamation of Bulwar by Jaddar.
The Temple of Bulwar[]
The temple complex sits in the heart of the city, between the Suran and Buranun rivers and the close to the famous canals that links them. The main building of the complex is the Eduz-Rakadash, a massive temple inside which lights enters thought red tainted Azanerdu glass and is reflected by bended moving mirrors, creating the illusion on dancing flames on the walls. Despite having been damaged multiple times by wars and invasions, the temple was always rebuilt in a more lavish manner, and is considered a world wonder to this day.
After competing with the temple of Eduz-Vacyn for most of its history, the temple of Bulwar became the undisputed center of the cult after the arrival of Sun Elves, with Jaher making the city his capital while Eduz-Vacyn unsuccessfully defied him. Bulwar then lost some of its influence to Taelarios, the sun elven king of Irrliam who attempted to centralise the cult around himself, before losing even more of it after the Jaddari invasion of the Suran plains in the late 15th century.
The Temple of Eduz-Vacyn[]
The Temple-complex of Vacyn, also known as Eduz-Vacyn, is the oldest and largest of the Sun Cult temples as it was founded by Kašra Hammura, one of the most important figures in the history of the Cult, around 1000 BA. Eduz-Vacyn is in reality three separate complexes: Eduz-Hammura, the oldest of the three, located in the center of the city; Eduz-Ešer, located in the south of the city and built by Kašra Ešer during the Damerian period and Eduz-Jaher, the largest complex, located in the opposite shore of the Suran. The complexes not only contain religious buildings, but granaries, warehouses, armories and workshops; administrative buildings and residences for the clergy; barracks and training fields for the exemplars and other non-religious facilities since in Eduz-Vacyn, political, military and religious power are held by the clergy since antiquity. The Kašra is the head of the clergy, and the ruler of the city and the lands that surround it.
The temple was sacked twice by Zokka Devourer-of-Suns, and lost most of their political and religious power afterwards, and while being eclipsed by the Confluence Temple in Azka-Sur its legacy as the oldest temple of the Sun Cult still remains.
The temple of Azka-Sur[]
The Confluence temple sits where the Golden Suran joins with the Brown Suran, a place considered holy by many of the Bulwari for it is the Suran river that brings life and prosperity to the region. While an important pilgramage destination since Antiquity, the Kašra of Azka-Sur was always less influential than his peers in Bulwar and Eduz-Vacyn.
Azka-Sur joined Eduz-Vacyn in their denial of Jaher being the reincarnation of Surael and were defeated during the conquest of the Upper Suran by Jaher. As Azka-Sur became one of the centres of the Empire, the elven population of the city increased and was cemented by the arrival of refugees from Haless during the dislocation of the Phoenix Empire. Soon the higher positions of the temple were held by elven priests which soon also assumed the office of Kašra.
Following the conquest of Azka-Sur by the Jaddari, it became the centre of the Jadd priesthood and gained a power the Temple never held before. The Confluence temple was embellished and became the main stop of the pilgrims on the road to the Mountain of Clear Sight.
