The Valorpoint Republic is a founding member nation of the Trollsbay Concord, occupying the western mouth of the bay. The state was founded by the leaders of the seven largest adventuring companies within Verne, who sought to escape overpopulation and feudal oppression within their homeland, and brought with them like-minded individuals from all walks of life. The fledgling state was chartered under a document known as the “Heartspier Declaration,” which outlined a commitment to Corinite ideals of freedom and camaraderie.
Valorborn[]
Upon their arrival in Aelantir, the settlers of Valorpoint quickly dispersed in search of discovery and adventure. As they romped around the Trollsbay countryside, the Valormen were quick to ingratiate themselves with the local Ruinborn, eager to solve dangerous problems for the bewildered natives. When the adventurers began to settle down, many took their lovers from their adventures with them, producing the first generation of mixed-race “Valorborn.” Though few in the beginning, Valorpoint’s long history of granting rights to natives and high rates of mixed marriages resulted in the Valorborn taking their place as the most populous demographic within Valorpoint in the present day.
In strict adherence to their founding principles, Valorpoint made it a state policy to never turn down any settlers seeking entry into the country. Together with their neighbor, Isobelin, these two nations welcome in the vast majority of immigrants into the Trollsbay.
Military[]
Heavily influenced by adventurer organization and ideals, Valorpoint military organization has traditionally been quite decentralized. Rather than maintaining an expansive standing army, the nation instead relies on the “Armocsguard,” a voluntary militia force organized to promote rapid mobilization. Consequently, the average Valorman is likely to be at least somewhat familiarized with basic battlefield procedure and marksmanship. The organization was pioneered by the veterans of a contingent of Valorman volunteers that scaled the Cliffs of Ruin to assist the Bacaran republicans in the War of Bacaran Succession. Having had to leave their cavalry and artillery behind on their ascent, the volunteers were forced to become masters of the skirmish – experience which they brought home with them to become the basic doctrine of the Armocsguard.
Their reliance on militia is by no means an indication that the Valormen are a demilitarized state; much to the contrary, a significant portion of state budget is allocated to the “Valorous Navy.” Established in 1638, the Valorous Navy was originally founded as an anti-piracy force, but has played a critical role in ensuring the Concord’s independence from Lorentish encroachment - a feat which has required the utmost levels of skill and professionalism. When it comes to their naval ethos, the Valormen adhere to a policy of quality over quantity, choosing to maintain a well-kept fleet of cutting-edge ships. Without a doubt, it can be said that the Valorous Navy is one of the best navies in all of Aelantir.
