The Kingdom of Lorent is one of the great powers of Cannor, located at Lencenor to the west of the continent. In 1444 it was Ruled by Kylian VI and the country has recently come out of the Lilac Wars as the nominal victor, and protected their throne from the Grand Duchy of Dameria. Lorent is a land famed for its tales of romantic chivalry, fashions and courtly manners and most importantly: wine.
Early History[]
The Lorenti tribe originated as a smaller subset of the Lencori Rubenti tribe that fled south from the modern-day Small Country due to the Gawedi Invasions of Lencenor, settling on the banks of the Bloodwine River. The Lorentish Kingdom proper would be founded in 523 by Lorenan the Great, whose namesake would later name the Lorenti tribe and Lorent as a whole.
In 525 the disparate Lencori tribes defeated the Gawedi host at the Battle of Rosefield, shortly after which Lorenan was elected as High King of Lencenor and crowned with the Ruby Crown of Lorent. Lorenan's election would mark the beginning of Lorentish dominance over the region. By 530 Lorenan would unite all peoples of Lencenor under his banner, offer protection and vassalization to the halflings of the Small Country, and finally repelled the Gawedi during the Battle of Red Reach.
Despite this, upon his death in 589 the de jure Lorentish lands was split to Lorenan's three sons, who in turn made their own dynasties:
- The House of Rubentis: led by his eldest, Ruben, they would rule the Kingdom of Redfort, which consisted of modern-day Lorentaine and the Lorentish heartlands
- The House of Rewantis: led by Rewan, they would rule the Kingdom of Redwood, which ruled modern-day Redglades and the kingdom's northern halfling territories, including Rosefield
- The House of Caylentis: led by Caylen, they would rule the Kingdom of Enteben, which Lorenan had gained through marriage of Caylen and the Entebic heir.
Redfort, the smallest but richest of the lands, would come to conquer the Carnetori Kingdom and form Lorentish Carneter. A few years later the War of the Three Roses would occur in 600 which saw civil war from these three kingdoms. The Kingdom of Redfort was dissolved and the House of Rubentis would rule as kings of Carneter, with de-jure Lorentish lands being "shared" amongst the kingdoms.
The Era of Black Ice saw western Lencenor settled by gerudian peoples, initially as a vassal under the Kingdom of Enteben but eventually broke out into its own Derannic Kingdom. This appearance of a third major power in the region caused much unrest between Redwood, Enteben and Carneter, causing many wars during this time, which at one point saw much of Lencenor under a Derannic king.
This period eventually ended after the War of the One Rose (878 - 900), a tumultous decade of war between Redwood, Enteben, Carneter and Deranne to unify Lencenor, when the elder branch of the Rewantis merged with the dying house of Caylentis to make the House of Lorentis and eventually pushing the Derannic peoples back to their de jure lands and squashing Carnetori ambitions in Lencenor. This war was also a major factor in the decline of the House of Rubentis, which ruled Carneter-Dameria and were once rulers of the Redfort. The elder house of the dynasty eventually fell to decline and were succeeded by the House of Dameris in 898, who were much more popular with the Damerian nobility due to their focus on Damerian lands, not Lorenti.
