'''The Greentide''' was the event starting in 1424 in which [[Orc|orcs]] led by [[Dookanson|Korgus Dookanson]] rose in vast numbers from beneath the Serpentspine Mountains and invaded [[Escann]] for both the purposes of conquest and to awaken Dookan through combat, crushing the [[Kingdom of Castellyr]] and the other kingdoms of [[Chivalric Escann]].   

In 1443 Korgus raised the [[Greentide Vanguard]] in order to finally invade [[Western Cannor]], but it was broken in the [[The Battle of Rottenstep|Battle of Rottenstep]] by the [[Marcher Lords]], a massive army comprised of adventurers and veterans of the recently ended [[Lilac Wars]]. The Greentide as a whole was stopped when [[Corin]], the avatar of the disgraced [[Regent Court]] god of war [[Agrados]], defeated Korgus, ultimately dying but killing him in the process during the [[Battle of Castonath]].

==[[Greentide Invasion of Deepwoods|Invasion of the Deepwoods]]==
During the Greentide an invasion was also launched into the [[Deepwoods]] against the elven clans there, which had previously been hidden from the outside world by the Verdant Veil. The invaders, due to the [[Verdant Veil]] largely lost contact with their counterparts in the rest of Escann, and only found out about Korgus' death when the veil fell in 1443. During the wars in the Deepwoods, many [[goblin]] slaves brought by the orcs escaped their orcish masters and joined with the local [[forest goblin|forest goblins]], who had been in the Deepwoods since long before the Greentide.

== Consequences ==
Despite the orcish aversion to killing non-combatants the Greentide saw a mass depopulation of Escann, largely due to the disruption of farming - the combination of orcs killing farmers who had taken arms against them, and the need for a food supply for the orcish warbands lead to food supplies being diminished in Escann.

This problem was exacerbated by the enforcement of traditional orcish law which permits dueling for property; as escanni humans were unable to beat orcs in such duels they were left impoverished and hungry and many chose to flee Escann, rather than remain under orcish rule.

Overall the combination of these two factors lead to Escann being largely depopulated when the Greentide ended in 1444, and it would have to be repopulated, by a combination of settlers from Western Cannor and returning Escanni refugees, in the following years.

Additionally Corin's acts during the Greentide, and a growing resentment between those in Escann, who saw themselves as having been abandoned by the Regent Court nations to the west, lead to the deification of Corin and, later, the emergence of the [[Corinite]] faith.
